The Territoire de Belfort positions itself as a key player in industrial innovation in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. MINCATEC Energy, a specialist in solid hydrogen storage, is setting up its first plant there. Here’s a look at an ambitious project that is part of the “First Factory” program under the France 2030 plan.

MINCATEC Energy: laureate of the “First Factory” program

MINCATEC Energy is moving into the industrial phase, further strengthening the position of the Territoire de Belfort as a major hub of industrial innovation in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. The company is among the winners of the national “First Factory” program, launched as part of the France 2030 investment plan in January 2022. This call for projects aims to accelerate the industrialization of start-ups, SMEs, and innovative ETIs.

A strategic location in Northern Franche-Comté

The start-up, specialized in solid hydrogen storage using metal hydrides, is preparing to open its first production site in Northern Franche-Comté. This establishment is supported by the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region. The AER BFC (Regional Economic Agency of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté) has been supporting this project since 2021, highlighting the regional hydrogen sector ecosystem and encouraging innovations in this field.

The Bartholdi V3 project: an advancement in hydrogen storage

MINCATEC Energy stands out with its Bartholdi V3 project, which offers innovative solutions for hydrogen storage. This process uses metal hydrides, enabling safer, energy-efficient, and low-pressure storage. These advances open up promising prospects for industrial decarbonization, stationary applications, and renewable energy storage.

Belfort, a growing hydrogen hub

This new establishment is part of the growing momentum around hydrogen in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Belfort already hosts major players in this sector, such as McPhy, FORVIA, Gen-hy, INOCEL, and ISTHY, demonstrating the ongoing development of this future-oriented field.

Supporting industrial and energy sovereignty

The AER BFC is proud to support initiatives such as MINCATEC Energy. They contribute to France’s industrial and energy sovereignty, while also participating in reindustrialization and job creation in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. This establishment illustrates the region’s commitment to energy transition and industrial innovation.
