Health Podcast: Biotherapies and Verneuil’s Disease — Driving Innovation with ON BOARD
The Regional Economic Agency of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (AER BFC) is proud to have supported, alongside the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region, the production of the very first episode of the podcast “ON BOARD” by On-Health. This new format sheds light on a still largely unknown yet highly debilitating condition: Verneuil’s disease, also known as Hidradenitis Suppurativa.
What Is Verneuil’s Disease?
Verneuil’s disease (Hidradenitis Suppurativa) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that affects approximately 1% of the French population. It is characterized by recurring painful flare-ups, nodules, and skin abscesses, typically occurring in areas subject to friction, such as the armpits, groin, and under the breasts. Frequently diagnosed at a late stage, the disease can have a profound psychological, social, and occupational impact on those affected.
Current therapeutic options remain limited, and disease management continues to pose significant challenges for both patients and healthcare providers, making it a serious medical issue and a major public health concern.
Research & Biotherapies: Where Do We Stand?
In this 20-minute episode, Professor François Aubin, Head of the Dermatology Department at the Besançon University Hospital, shares his expert insight into the condition and its medical implications. He also discusses recent progress in the field of biotherapies — notably, the development of an initial anti-inflammatory treatment as part of earlier research efforts.
Today, a new milestone is being reached with the launch of a research project aimed at identifying and developing additional targeted biotherapies. Currently in its first phase, this initiative reflects a strong regional research dynamic, with the ambition of offering new therapeutic prospects to patients living with Verneuil’s disease.
A Regional Commitment to Health Innovation
This podcast reflects the ongoing commitment of AER BFC and its partners to supporting medical research, promoting therapeutic innovation, and strengthening collaboration within the regional health ecosystem. The goal: to generate practical, lasting solutions that improve patients’ lives.
We extend our sincere thanks to our partners for their dedication to this project: the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region, TEMIS Technopole, SANTENOV Dijon Bourgogne, and PMT – Pôle des Microtechniques.
